“BATTLE ROUTINE SET.”

fernando’s trademark opener booms over the gym’s speakers as both avatars take their position on the field. instead of tapu fini, his silvally represents him today. the pokemon’s ability to siphon and convert his MISTY TERRAIN with its TERRAIN PULSE proves essential to their synergy.

the same cannot be said about his opponent: Raziel Beckett. his presence here is less of a training dummy and more of a chance to examine his powers in a vacuum. as the fledgling avatar among silph co.’s roster, he has the most to prove and grow. however, due to the tight-lipped nature of their position, only fernando is aware.

“EXECUTE.”

the MISTY TERRAIN sets in, plumes of pink and lavender carpeting the field with the aroma of sugar and spice.

"You know I know my abilities are more battle oriented, but this still seems unfair," Razz can't help but grumble some as their practice goes on like all times before. Though Salem is on his shoulder this time wanting to fight along side his trainer for this exorcise. Ah well at least it wasn't the stupid Heatran. Razz covers his mouth and nose as the Terrain comes across the field. Salem doesn't need orders to know to set up a REFLECT around his trainer. [break][break]

Meanwhile Razz has other plans as raises his hand up above him as he creates a ball of flames around the same size as a dodgeball. Releasing it by throwing it at the Silvally, it's speed hadn't suffered much from it's size thankfully but the pokemon will find out quick that they were not the only target as the explosion goes off to purify the terrain with his flames.

“REAL BATTLES RARELY ARE.”

fernando bites back with a quick retort as his silvally watches razz prepare his attack. the linear nature of the charge up, throw, and trajectory makes it easy to dodge with a nimble leap to the side. the way the pokemon’s paws tuck into the ground means such agility will be harder in quick succession but it ignores that in lieu of a counter attack.

however, the attack isn’t just a projectile. it explodes. the sudden displacement of kinetic energy pushes against the pokemon as it fumble in place. sharp claws dig in, breathing quickening, as it sucks up the MISTY TERRAIN around it. flared nostrils give way to a beam of TERRAIN PULSE that looks to shatter the REFLECT walls the meowstic has summoned.

meanwhile, fernando observes. in the flame’s wake, he notices that his MISTY TERRAIN does not fill in the intrusive gap. it continues to exist around the flames, coiling against the field’s open wound, but unable to cover it.

"Speaking from your experience from here in Hoenn or Kanto?" Razz can't help but question out of curiosity as the monstrous pokemon attacks. The ranger is still out of the loop about this pokemon and is unfamiliar with out outside of his time on the bridge during the war, and Orion Lykos. As the Terrain Pluse comes at him Razz is quick to use his explosions for maneuvering. Blasting under himself to get out of the way of the attack. This time though he adds a tad more power which allows much more speedy movements from him. [break][break]

However as he struggles to land its clear he isn't used to the speed of movement yet. What would've been a trip up of him falling over himself though is stopped by Salem's Psychic as it stops and slows him. "Going that fast is rough"

a region rife with turmoil. his new home under siege by the supernatural and otherworldly. to delineate one as the forefront of battle acuity would be to do both a disservice. each provide examples, both provide ample chances to learn.

here, in this small pocket of time, is another lesson to add to their repertoires. as razz manages to evade the return attack, using his explosive prowess to thrust himself away, the silvally mimics his technique. flames break out as the pokemon ramps up speed, a distinctive FLAME CHARGE to cut their distance.

“which is why we practice,” he announces, right as the silvally comes within reach.

Razz could say he has the same experience. But he is not going to reveal himself as the liar revealed trope. He'll just give an affirmative grunt. Panic happens as the beast attempts to FLAME CHARGE him. Training with FERNANDO SILPH's has allowed him to stop freezing up completely with fire attacks that come at him. Where as before Razz would need Salem to be bailing him out here, now the Ranger's flight responce kicks in, with a tad mix of fight, as he raises his arm and creates an explosion for the flames to collide with. As it hits the LIGHT SCREEN Salem brings up Razz creates another explosion. [break][break]

The explosion aim to burn the bastard as well as knock Razz and Salem back away from the beast. Hopefully it'll be enough to burn the creature and put distance between them. "Can you do anything besides mist?" he questions wondering if it was just him who had to suffer with fighting pokemon like this to practice with his new gifts. His hands twitching slightly as everything was still weird. [break][break]

Luckly for the other, the Truth Dragon's Avatar didn't have his own terrain up.

FLAMES COLLIDE when the silvally effectively hurtles itself into razz’s defense. the impact of the blast proves more potent up-close. the result ends with the pokemon thrown backwards, struggling as it tries to land on all fours instead of its side.

a disgruntled bark is muttered underneath the silvally’s snout. it takes a moment to shake its head clear, reassessing the situation. fresh soot clings to its body, residue from the fire damage the pokemon’s sustained.

“not much more. all my powers derive from tapu fini or the mist.”

and, under the distorted lens of perception, the answer proves true. whether or not razz has his TERRAIN OF TRUTH matters not. fernando is not one to take chances. without a full understanding of his powers, or what might come to be, he treats every instance as an open threat.

like he proposed earlier, practice prepares them for when they have to face these powers in full force.

Razz shakes his hands as the other speaks as he gives a look to Salem as he wants to try something new. Something he so far hasn't tried on anything but fire pokemon of his, that were using protect. Because the Ranger doesn't really want to hurt things too bad. Not anymore. For now he just believes the other when he says they can't do much. "So nothing that'll allow you to fight pokemon like this?"[break][break]

With that he takes off with an explosion to close the distance while the silvally is trying to recover before reaching close to do a few quick secessions of blast together, see just how damaging it could possibly be. Though its clear he is still trying to hold back some.[break][break]

which, again, is true. all his abilities revolve around others. whether it be turning them on each other or bringing tapu fini to the forefront of combat. even the auxiliary uses of his powers involves others.

boom! the first attack strike and the explosion that ripples obscures the vision of the next few. the sound of them striking rings true but when the dust and heat settles, a green barrier stands erect. cracks line its surface but the PROTECT remains.

what razz will find much later is both payback and the temper of fernando’s most obedient lapdog.
